JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® Columbus, Ohio is a dermal filler developed specifically for the lips and the fine lines that border the lips in contrast to VOLLURE® (which may be used for the nasolabial folds/smile lines and marionette lines) or VOLUMA® (which is typically used to fill in volume loss in the midface and cheek areas). VOLBELLA® is the latest in FDA approved dermal filler. The area above the lips is prone to develop fines lines which cause lipstick to migrate above lips. VOLBELLA® can help redefine this border keeping lipstick in place. As we age, we tend to lose volume in the lips. VOLBELLA®, when injected by an expert, can plump up the lips to whatever degree you feel comfortable. At Columbus Facial Plastics at Sullivan Centre, we specialize in helping patients achieve their perfect lips.
By using Allergan’s Vycross technology, VOLBELLA ® delivers an ultra-smooth gel that produces a natural look and feel with improved duration. VOLBELLA® is formulated with lidocaine which helps numb the area as the product is being injected. For patient comfort, we also numb the lips with a topical treatment prior to injection. Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Stephen Nogan and Nurse Injector Nancy Cotterman, RN are experts in the art of lip injections. They provide patients with a consultation during every injection to determine your expectations.
“Liquid Facelift” is the term that is used when dermal fillers are injected into specific areas of the face to provide volume that has been lost through aging. Allergan, the manufacturers of Botox Cosmetic, developed a line of Juvederm Dermal Fillers that fall under the Juvederm® Umbrella. These fillers were developed with varying molecular compounds which provide natural looking results.

Benefits
This filler is unique in that it is designed not only for gentle restoration of natural looking lip volume, but can also be used for defining lip contours, treating oral commissures, smoothing fine ‘smoker’ lines around the lips and supporting the ‘marionette’ lines down the chin. It is also ideal for accentuating the lips, plump them to add subtle fullness and enhancing the Cupid’s bow.
How do JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® lip injections work?
Volbella was developed by Allergan, the manufactures of BOTOX Cosmetic. By using Allergan’s Vycross technology, JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® with lidocaine is formulated with a combination of high and low molecular weight technology. This effective cross-linking results in less swelling and increased ease of delivery. The unique technology delivers an ultra-smooth gel, which results in a natural look and feel, as well as improved duration.
This unique technology allows VOLBELLA® to absorb less water which results in reduced swelling and the ability to visual the effects immediately after injecting compared to other fillers. Not only is there less downtime, VOLBELLA ® contains lidocaine which makes Injection treatment more comfortable. Results last up to twelve months.
How long will Juvederm VOLBELLA® last?
Recent studies by Allergan report that results can last up to a year.
General Information:
- One week prior, avoid all products containing aspirin, non-steroidal inflammatory medications (Motrin, Advil, Aleve and Ibuprofen), high doses of Vitamin C and E, and fish oil as these products may increase your risk of bruising.
- VOLBELLA® results are expected to last for up to one year with optimal treatment. Evidence has shown that having a touch up treatment before the product is fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.
- The most common side effects are temporary and mild in intensity and may include swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising. To minimize the risk of bruising, patients should avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory agents and Vitamin C and E supplements for one week prior to the injection.
- If the area is uncomfortable, you may use ice for the first 24 hours. Use caution and place a thin piece of fabric between the ice pack and your skin.
- Strenuous exercise, consumption of alcoholic beverages and extended exposure to heat or sun should be avoided for at least 24 hours following the injection.
- If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, please discuss this with Dr. Nogan or Nancy, RN prior to your procedure. The doctor may consider prescribing a medication to minimize recurrence.
Before your scheduled appointment, please make sure you eat something. We do not want you to become light-headed during your procedure. Excessive amounts of caffeine may heighten your sensitivity to the injection.
VOLBELLA® or BOTOX®Cosmetic?
VOLBELLA® is used to fill a deficit and add volume to an area. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to temporarily paralyze the muscle when repetitive motion causes lines. Sometimes both of these products may be used together.
