Hi, I am Tracey Conforti, patient co-ordinator at the Sullivan Centre for Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic surgery in Columbus, Ohio. Welcome to our video series on how to prepare your loved one to be your caregiver following your surgical procedure. Today, we are going to talk about facelift patients and after care. The most important thing for facelift patients is to have somebody there with you for the first 24 hours. When our patients leave the Sullivan Centre, they will have a compression garment that is wrapped around their head; that will stay on for the first 48 hours; doctor Michael will meet patients here literally 48 hours after the surgery, get that taken off; swelling really starts to dissipate at that point but for the first few days, patients may be a little bit unsteady on their feet. In my 16 years of experience here at Sullivan Centre, I have never one time had a facelift patient saying it was painful. I hear quite often that the head dressing is annoying; once that head dressing comes off, you come back about five days after that for suture removal, and then, it is really just a waiting in healing game. It takes about two weeks for patients to be able to go back to work, and what your caregiver should really be focussing on is making sure that you ice the area, and that you are steady on your feet for the first 48 hours and that you follow all of the written instructions that will be provided to you by Dr Michael Sullivan.
