Sorting Out Facial Procedures

Ohioans who seek facial plastic surgery from The Sullivan Centre will find that their initial consultation with Dr. Michael Sullivan is as important as the procedure itself. Following an examination, Dr. Sullivan considers your medical history, age, lifestyle, skin elasticity, and sun damage to determine which procedure best matches your needs.

During this planning stage, you are encouraged to share your goals with Dr. Sullivan, who will help you set realistic expectations, so you understand what your procedure can do for you. Facial surgery can make you look younger or address specific issues caused by age, illness, or injury. After your procedure, you should enjoy a better quality of life with more self-confidence and higher self-esteem.

It’s always a good idea to educate yourself about the procedure you are considering so that you can be more informed prior to your initial consultation. Here we offer information to help you sort out the available facial procedures:

Improving the shape, outline, and structure of your face

Cheek Implants

Hollow places can form in our cheeks as we age. The bone structure can actually shrink, too. To counter these symptoms permanently, semi-soft cheek implants can be shaped and attached to your cheek bones. Cheek implants can restore a youthful heart shape to your face.

Chin Implants

Increasing the projection of a weak chin can add balance to the lower third of your face. A silicone rubber implant is inserted via an incision under your chin or in your mouth. These implants have a long track record of safety and feel natural to the touch.

Rhinoplasty

This surgery reshapes the cartilage in your nose to make its appearance more appealing for either aesthetic or medical reasons. Dr. Sullivan prefers the Open Rhinoplasty technique, as it offers more predictable results.

Submental Liposuction

This procedure removes excess fat under your chin. Dr. Sullivan makes a small, virtually invisible incision and uses a small tube to extract the unwanted fat. He then sculpts your neck tissue to provide you with a sharper jawline. While often desired by younger patients, neck liposuction can also be a good complement to a lower facelift.

Otoplasty

This surgery is commonly performed on children older than five who have protruding ears, but adults can also be candidates. Often, Dr. Sullivan makes a small incision on the back of the ear to shape the underlying cartilage. The result can be smaller ears or ears set closer to the head.

Correcting aging in your upper face

Browlift

A Columbus browlift addresses those frown lines and heavy eyebrows that develop with age. To counter the pull of gravity and sagging skin, Dr. Sullivan tightens your skin and removes the excess. The result is a smoother forehead and a more youthful expression that others won’t mistake for fatigue, sadness, or anger.

Eyelid Lift

In an eyelid lift Columbus plastic surgeon Dr. Sullivan removes the extra skin and fat that appear on our eyelids as we age. Your age, medical history, skin type, ethnicity, and eyesight determine if you are candidate for this procedure. An eyelid lift can address your lower eyelids, upper eyelids, or both.

Correcting aging in the middle and lower face & neck

Facelift

Aging causes our features to sag, and a Columbus facelift can restore the youthful face you used to have. Dr. Sullivan can perform a lower facelift, a mid-facelift, or a mini facelift. Technological advances have reduced the recovery time from these surgeries and made the results look more natural for a longer period of time.

Platysma Plication

Usually part of a lower facelift, a platysma plication tightens the neck folds that sometimes appear as our neck muscles lose their tone and elasticity with age. During the procedure, Dr. Sullivan sutures the muscles together and then tightens them.

Adding volume to your face

Fat Transfer

Rather than address a loss of facial volume with implants or temporary injections, consider a fat transfer. Excess fat is removed from one area of your body and then re-inserted into the area of your face that needs it. The best candidates for this procedure are nonsmokers under 65.
