I often receive questions about the various types of liposuction and the contrast between them. People often get confused due to the different terms used within the plastic surgery industry.
The different types of liposuction actually only depend on what energy is used to break up the fat; however, the process is the same.
I like to explain that there are three steps to liposuction. The first step is to inject tumescent fluid into the fat, which includes a numbing agent. The next step is where the different types of liposuction come into play. The doctor will either use smart lipo, which uses a laser to break up the fat. The other option is to use vaser lipo, which uses ultrasonic energy to break up the fat. Finally, the excess fat is suctioned out. Ultimately, the difference really lies in the form of energy being used to break up the fat.
The pricing for liposuction varies depending on the number of areas, as well as, whether local or general anesthesia will be used (awake/asleep during the procedure). An estimated cost will range anywhere from $3900-8200; however, an exact quote will be given to you at the time of your initial consultation at Sullivan Center with Dr. Stephen Nogan.
