Pre/Post Care

4 Weeks prior avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self tanner for the treatment area and throughout the BBL treatment course. If unavoidable, treatment sessions may need to be increased due to reduced fluence (i.e. energy) settings or even canceled if recently exposed.

Do not use aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba for at least 1 week before and for the first 2 days after treatment (of vascular targets).

Inform clinician of any areas with permanent makeup or tattoos as they need to be avoided.

Post Treatment

• Cleanse the skin two times a day with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser
• Apply a soothing ointment as needed to treated areas to prevent drying and for soothing effect
• If the treated area scabs, apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment to the treated area twice daily for 7 days, or until the surface looks healed
• Apply mineral SPF daily
• Do not rub, scratch, or pick the area(s), as treated areas may be more fragile for up to several days or more after treatment
• Makeup is permitted immediately after treatment (with provider discretion), be very gently when applying and removing
• You may experience some redness/swelling that should resolve within a few days

You will experience smoother skin, smaller pores, and fading of sun spots as well as a gradual decrease in the overall redness and flushing in your face, neck, or chest. If you suffer from rosacea, a common vascular problem, BBL treatments can improve your symptoms significantly.

Considerations:

During a Broad Band Light (BBL) treatment, some patients may experience mild discomfort. This sensation is most often described as a rubber band snap, is short lived and generally tolerable. Following each BBL treatment, the skin may appear flushed, tiny blood vessels may appear more visible and brown spots may appear darker. These effects decrease in a few hours. Your result will be assessed at a four week follow up appointment.

The brown pigmented spots may appear darker after your first treatment. Eventually you will notice that the pigmented area begins to fade.  It is important to stay out of the sun before and after Broad Band Light (BBL) treatments. Sun block and proper clothing should be worn to protect your results.
