The Dangers of Excessive Plastic Surgery

Hello, I’m Dr. Michael Sullivan, facial plastic surgeon at the Sullivan Centre in Columbus Ohio. I’d like to talk a little bit about excessive plastic surgery brought about by body dysmorphic syndrome. Alicia Douvall who’s a glamor model from England was on the news program this morning talking about and warning of the excesses of cosmetic surgery.

She said over 350 procedures including six rhinoplasties, facelift, cheek implants, eleven procedures around her eyes, and a number of other body procedures. Body Dysmorphic Syndrome is a known entity. Patients can become obsessed with cosmetic procedures resulting to excessive plastic surgery. Unfortunately, these people do need professional help. And the physician or surgeon has a responsibility to recognize patients who might have this disorder and to talk with them and be able to refer them to the appropriate sources. Thank you very much for visiting the Sullivan Centre. Have a good day.
