Male Breasts – Male Breast Reduction. Columbus male breast reduction is words many never think should go together. However, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), an estimated 40-60 percent of the male population is affected by a condition called gynecomastia or male breasts.

Certain drugs such as anabolic steroids, medications containing estrogen, alcohol, marijuana, etc. may cause or contribute to male breasts. Some medical conditions including cancer and impaired liver function, to name a few, may also cause or contribute to enlarged male breasts. However, it is widely accepted that a large percentage of cases derive from unknown sources.

Men of any age, who are healthy and emotionally stable, are considered good candidates for male breast reduction surgery. The best candidates are those who have firm elastic skin that will reshape to the body’s new contours.

The good news is that enlarged male breasts can be reduced. The procedure for male breast reduction involves liposuction and/or excising glandular breast tissue. There will be a very small scar around the nipple following male breast reduction. The scars are camouflaged between dark and light parts of the breast as well as chest hair. To assist with the healing process, the patient will wear an elastic pressure garment for 4-6 weeks and must avoid exposing scarred areas to the sun for at least 6 months. This procedure can be done on an outpatient basis and a male breast reduction patient usually requires about a week off work. The risks are best discussed with Dr. Sullivan during your initial consultation.

The benefits of male breast reduction surgery include a flatter, firmer, more contoured chest which may boost self-confidence. Patients who have undergone Columbus male breast reduction surgery report the procedure has made a very positive impact on their lives.
