I am asked on a daily basis about finding the right fit. I am not talking about a mate, but about the right bra. It is estimated that over 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong size bra, which means that only 20 percent of us are reaping the benefits from well-fitting bras.

You may ask: “What are the benefits of a bra that fits correctly?” For starters: less neck, back, and shoulder pain. There are also other positive results from wearing a bra that fits correctly. How about more confidence in clothing because you don’t have to worry about the “third breast” popping out of the top of your bra, slipping underneath your bra , or having too much side cleavage. The right bra is even more important following breast surgery, whether for a breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift.

I am personally guilty of the above infractions. I did a quick Google search and found a new local business that specializes in bra fitting. Curv Appeal is located in Worthington, Ohio, and private fittings are scheduled by appointment (call 614-557-9956).

I contacted the owner and we discussed size. One of the biggest obstacles women face is that they get caught in the “letter game.” Many of us wear the wrong size bra because we want to be a cup size that we aren’t. We convince ourselves that stuffing ourselves into a C cup will make our breasts look smaller and provide a youthful breast lift. This is simply not true.

I scheduled a fitting for next week and am looking forward to continuing this conversation with the owner. I promise to keep you “abreast” of my experience. In the meantime, go through your lingerie drawer. Take some time and try on all of your bras. Be honest with yourself. Do any of them fit properly?
