Chin Implants: Rebalance Your Facial Features for Greater Confidence

Lack of balance and harmony of the facial anatomy can be a source of dissatisfaction for some patients and can play a role in one’s self-confidence and self-esteem. A small chin or jaw is a specific concern that can make some patients self-conscious in social or professional settings.  When viewed from the front or side profile, an imbalance of the chin or jaw in relation to the rest of the facial anatomy can be significant. The safest and most efficient way to restore that balance is by inserting a chin implant.

At Columbus Facial Plastics, our goal with chin implant procedures is to harmoniously enhance your facial composition and balance out your natural features. This procedure can help to redefine your chin and jawline, playing a crucial role in the overall dynamics of your face.

The Chin Implant Procedure: What to Expect

The chin implant procedure at Columbus Facial Plastics, conducted by the experienced Dr. Nogan, follows a straightforward and safe plan. The procedure usually takes about an hour and can be done under local anesthesia with the patient fully conscious or under deep sedation if preferred.

We commence the treatment by making an incision in the crease beneath your chin. The implant is then carefully placed through this incision. To ensure a natural-looking result, the implant is inserted into a precise pocket created under the chin’s soft tissue, right above the jaw bone.

Patients can expect some discomfort during the first week of recovery; we recommend the use of ice packs, keeping the head elevated, and pain medication to alleviate this. Temporary numbness, bruising, and initial swelling are common and will gradually resolve over a few weeks. In general, patients can return to work, social activities, and exercise within 1-2 weeks following the procedure.

Addressing Common Questions

  1. Chin Implant Removal: While the procedure is designed to provide permanent results, the implant can be easily and safely removed if needed or desired. This process is safe, straightforward, and can be performed in our office if the implant becomes displaced or the aesthetic goals change over time.
  2. Infection Risks: Infection around the implant during the healing period is a rare occurrence due to our meticulous sterilization and infection-control processes. However, to further mitigate the risk, we place patients on a course of antibiotics for one week post-surgery.
  3. Chin Implants vs. Injectables: Many patients express curiosity about the difference between chin implants and injectable treatments. While both have their advantages, chin implants typically offer more significant, permanent improvement in chin volume while ensuring a natural appearance. Moreover, for those who have undergone multiple chin injection sessions, chin implants can prove to be a more cost-effective solution.

At Columbus Facial Plastics, we are dedicated to providing personalized and effective solutions for enhancing your facial harmony. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Nogan, we ensure that our chin implant procedures are safe, natural and tailored to your specific goals.
