Excess fat under the chin is very common; in fact, many people may even inherit this condition. This doesn’t have to be a double chin; it can simply appear as a puffy or drooping area of localized fat and excess skin. Oftentimes, this condition makes a person look unfairly overweight by obscuring the jawline. Submental liposuction is an effective procedure to remove unwanted chin fat and restore a more aesthetic jaw, neck angle.

Submental liposuction is a procedure in which a small tube called a cannula (about the size of a cocktail straw) and suction are used to remove excess fatty tissue located underneath your chin. If you have unwanted fat under your chin, this procedure can help you. During your consultation, Dr. Stephen Nogan will determine if this procedure will best address your concerns.
Chin Liposuction Procedure
Highlighting the jawline by submental liposuction may be done as an isolated procedure or in combination with a lower facelift or chin augmentation surgery. Dr. Nogan makes an inconspicuous incision just under your chin, and then he uses liposuction to remove the excess fatty cells. The incision is virtually invisible when fully healed, as there is often a fold or crease at the location where he places the incision.
Chin Liposuction Post-Op Results
The amount of improvement varies slightly for each patient, but you can expect to see a marked improvement after the procedure. There may be some swelling right after the surgery, but it subsides quickly.
Submental liposuction will help you get rid of a double chin, but it will not improve any jowling you may have. Oftentimes, submental liposuction is used to enhance the results of a lower facelift.
Kybella injections and FACEtite are other options to consider for addressing excess fat under the chin. Each procedure has advantages and disadvantages which Dr. Nogan will thoroughly explain during your consultation.
